FAQ

Questions

Who can use Deficitto right now?

Deficitto is in beta. You need an iPhone and an invite code. Leave your email on the home page and we’ll send one when there’s room.

Do I need a smartwatch?

It helps. Burn comes from Apple Health, so any watch that writes active and resting energy there works. If nothing reports resting burn, Deficitto estimates it from your sex, birth year and height.

Which wearables work?

Apple Watch works through Apple Health. Garmin and Fitbit work once you turn on Apple Health sync in their app. A direct Garmin connection is coming.

How accurate are the photo estimates?

Every meal comes back with a range, for example 560–910 kcal, not just one number. A short note like “180 g cottage cheese” narrows it. The camera can’t see cooking oil, butter or sauces, so add those in the note when you can.

Why does today’s number say “provisional”?

Your watch keeps reporting burn until the day ends, and some meals may still be estimating. The number is drawn with a dashed underline until the day is complete.

What does calibration do?

After about two weeks of logged days and a few weigh-ins, Deficitto compares the deficit you logged with your weight trend. If the scale disagrees, it tells you and lists the usual causes.

Can I log a meal without a photo?

Yes. On the camera screen, tap Type it and describe what you ate. Any meal you’ve logged can be logged again, or saved as a template for the ones you have often.

Can I check a meal before I eat it?

Yes. Snap it and look at the estimate. Nothing is logged until you tap Save, so closing the sheet just means you were checking.

Does it work offline?

New meals are saved on your phone and estimated once you’re back online. Today’s numbers show when they were last updated.
